The San Jose Symphonic Choir began singing in 1924, under the auspices of the San Jose Chamber of Commerce. It has been in continual performances through a few ‘modulations’ and changes to its current configuration of 110 singers. Curent rehearsals occur at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1100 Shasta Avenue, at the corner of The Alameda.

Maestro Leroy Kromm
Maestro Leroy Kromm begins his 25th year directing the San Jose Symphonic Choir, which regularly performs with orchestras. On the second Monday in December for the past 27 years, SJSC leads hundreds of singers in the “You-Sing-It-Messiah”, which includes group solos as well. Leroy is on the voice faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, directs the Monterey Symphony Chorus, as well as the Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church of Saratoga’s Music Ministry.
Each year, the San Jose Symphonic Choir puts on a Christmas Concert, usually the Saturday after Thanksgiving. For the past several years, that has been at the St. Joseph’s Cathedral, at Market and San Fernando Streets, downtown San Jose. Many years, the SJSC has also performed with various orchestras and venues in the Fall, such as Mozart’s Requiem with George Cleve and his orchestra.

Flight to the Stars & Requiem for Lost Children
Every March, the San Jose Symphonic Choir usually performs a landmark work. This past season, two contemporary composer’s works came together as the “Flight Through the Stars” by Henry Mollicone and Sondra Clarke’s “Requiem for Lost Children”. In previous seasons, we have produced the World Premier of Henry Mollicone’s “Beatitude Mass” to benefit the homeless, “Bllshazzar’s Feast” by William Walton along with the “Five Mysical Songs” featuring the world-famous Nathan Gunn singing baritone.
